The New Jack Mason Pursuit Pilot Marks The Brand’s 10th Anniversary

A clean-cut pilots watch collection powered by a Swiss-made movement, for a very sensible price.

Anniversaries are to be celebrated, whether in your personal life or on the more professional side of things. Heck, every year plenty of brands release celebratory watches in honour of hallmark occasions. This year, Jack Mason joins in on the birthday shenanigans with an entirely new range of tool-oriented watches called the Pursuit Pilot, which marks 10 years of watchmaking by the American company. With a name that leaves little to the imagination with regards to the brand’s intentions with this one, the Pursuit Pilot is split into two styles; a stainless steel core collection and a grade 2 titanium 10-Year Anniversary Special Edition. Now that we’ve introduced you to it, let’s take to the skies and have a closer look!

The Core Collection of the new Pursuit Pilot, in hardened 316L stainless steel.

The clean-cut Pursuit Pilot collection is split between a core range in stainless steel or a 10 Year Anniversary Special Edition in Grade 2 titanium. The case, regardless of the material, has also been given a special coating to bump it up to 1,200 points on the Vickers hardness scale. Both share the same architecture and dimensions, which come down to a width of 39mm and a height of 11.8mm. At an end-to-end length of 46mm, the Pursuit Pilot will fit pretty much any wrist perfectly fine. On top, there’s a sapphire crystal, with a solid caseback on the reverse side. With a water resistance rating of 150 meters, the Pursuit Pilot more than backs up its tool-like looks.

In terms of the dial, as is common practice for pilot’s watches, Jack Mason has aimed for the highest possible level of legibility. The core collection comes with a finely grained matte black, white or green dial. The markers are solid Lumicast X2 blocks in white, paired with sword-shaped hands with luminous inserts, all emitting a green glow at night. The central seconds hand is lacquered white or orange and has a red/white/blue counterweight. The 10 Year Anniversary Special Edition (see the three images below) subtly changes things up with beige-coloured Lumicast X2 blocks, numerals and printed details, and an X to mark the 10th hour in the day, for obvious reasons. This one also has a brushed seconds hand instead of a lacquered one and a combination of blue and green for the night-time glow of the markers and hands.

Ticking away diligently underneath the solid titanium (decorated with a large X for the 10th anniversary) or steel caseback is La Joux-Perret’s G101 automatic movement. This ETA 2824 alternative has been making the rounds more and more recently, which indicates it’s a reliable engine at least. It beats at a frequency of 28,800vph and offers a running time of 68 hours when fully wound by the central rotor. In terms of accuracy, it’s regulated to run within a deviation of +/- 5 seconds per day.

Jack Mason delivers the sleek and purposeful Pursuit Pilot on a three-link bracelet, either in grade 2 titanium for the 10 Year Anniversary Special Edition or stainless steel for the core models. Either way, both come with a quick-release system to easily swap them out for something else and an adjustable folding clasp. Prices are set at USD 1,399 in steel, or USD 1,649 in titanium, which seems very fair. The titanium edition also comes in a special presentation box. The pre-order books are now open, with delivery expected to commence from February 17th onwards.
