The New MeisterSinger Black One Limited Edition

Vibrant yellow accents enliven the black DLC-clad single-handed timekeeper.

Reviving a concept popularised during the Middle Ages, when single-hand tower clocks rang out the hours, the German brand MeisterSinger has carved a very successful niche for its single-handed watches since it was founded in 2001. Just ahead of its attendance at Watches & Wonders 2025, MeisterSinger releases a 100-piece limited edition in lava black and vibrant yellow, fittingly named the Black One.

The Black One is part of MeisterSinger’s limited edition series. It is a straightforward time-only model based on the Primatic, but it stands out from the brand’s regular fare with its striking jet-black carbon-coated case. While the diamond-like carbon coating gives the watch a darker, more contemporary vibe, it also makes the case more rugged and hard-wearing. In contrast to the sleek, smooth finish of the DLC-coated case, the black dial has a gritty, lava-like texture.

Breaking up the dark case and dial are the vivid canary-yellow double-digit hour numerals separated by a fine white minutes track. Enhanced with yellow luminescent material, the yellow hours glow in the dark. Mastering how to read time with the broad single hand is a cinch. Every marker placed between the hours represents five minutes. If the single hand points to the fifth marker between 10 and 11 o’clock, for example, the time is 10:25; if it points to the eleventh marker, it is 10:55. To assist legibility, the indices representing half and quarter hours are slightly thicker than the rest.

The centre of the screwed-down caseback is stamped with ‘Edition Black One 100/100’ and displays a mottled carbon pattern. Powered by the tried-and-tested Sellita SW200 automatic –  a competitor of ETA’s 2824 workhorse –  the movement beats at a 4Hz frequency and delivers a modest 38-hour power reserve.

MeisterSinger’s Edition Black One is paired with a vibrant yellow and sporty rubber strap. A black strap is also available for those who prefer something a little less loud. The 100-piece limited edition will be available at the end of this month (February 2025) and retails for EUR 2,190 (incl. tax).
